Autumn in the Bog

My Sunday morning hike was into the bog at the bottom of the mountain. I’ve heard there is another one further up the mountain but I haven’t seen it. It is a really neat-o area that I hike through and around regularly. Once going through it I got stuck, fell three times and filled my boots up with water, it was really comical. Another time I was riding our Ranger around the edge and a football sized baby bear popped out in front. That was exciting to see but where there is a baby there is a mama. A quick reverse out of there and no sighting of the mama. I’ve also been able to observe the mating ritual of the American Woodcock as well as collected medicinal plants from the edges. I don’t usually go in to it until the winter when the vegetation dies back and snakes and other creatures aren’t around but the fall colors and mist were too much to pass up. Here are some photos.
