Morning is my favorite time to hike. The clouds moving through the mountains create an ever- changing scenery. See a neat-o shot? Better take it right then or it will change in a matter of seconds. To watch the sun come up and burn the mist away is exciting to me. I can start out with very limited sight distance and end up with those clear mountain mornings that Willie Nelson sings about.
It is early fall and most of the spring and summer wild flowers are gone but we still have some blooms that are nice and some that are dead but still are interesting. Golden Rod is about the perfect shade of yellow and I’ll miss it until next summer. I did see one final clump of Butterfly Weed, which is also one of my favorites. Asters are always nice this time of the year and they seem to be very prolific this year. My best sighting was the Nodding Lady’s Tresses orchids. I saw at least 12 of them and hope there will be more since this was my first sighting. Such a delicate flower covered with morning dew makes me breathe funny.
