I recently had the experience of a lifetime, an exhibition in Italy! I attended the opening in Casoli and what made the trip especially good was my perfect traveling companions, my adult children. Thanks to them is was a near perfect trip.
This opportunity began back during the Covid epidemic. I started receiving signed and numbered prints from France, no explanation, just a print in an envelope. I managed to find one of the artists that spoke English, Sylvie Vey. She explained it was a way for printmakers around the world to keep in touch. Great idea but I still don’t know how they got my name.
We stayed internet friends and later organized an international print exchange. Sylvie chose 5 French and Belgium printmakers and I chose 5 American printmakers and we all produced prints on a common theme (What Else), exchanged them and had a copy of our print and 11 others.
Still later Sylvie and one of the other printmakers, Sabine Cez asked me to exhibit with them and Simon Bezzi Batani in Cosali, Italy. Cosali is a tiny medieval mountain town northeast of Florence. It is known for the sgraffito (images scratched and engraved on the walls) Sabine was a great host in her gallery / studio and to meet Sylvie and Simon in person was another highpoint. After we left Casoli had their sgraffito festival, check it out. https://www.sgraffitiacasoli.it/
